This is a presumptive test, which determines the presence of acid phosphatase, a major constituent of seminal fluid. The presence of this enzyme generally indicates that male sexual activity has occurred, however, a false positive may be obtained. Therefore, when a stain tests positive, we will conduct DNA profiling of stain sample.
A DNA Profile is performed to determine if there is DNA in the stain. We determine if a male, female, or mixture has contributed to the DNA in the stain, and if there is more than one person's DNA in the stain. In most cases, one unique DNA profile will be generated from the sample. |
